Lost our girl back in two thousand nineteen,
Zoey was her name, she was made of love.
She was the most gentle dog ever seen,
Anger, she was completely bereft of.
Helped raise our new chicks, the hens well aware,
Following little puffs of fluff across,
The lawn. Her snout directing chicks with care,
Acting motherly, watching out for hawks.
To us humans she was just family,
Loved to be with us, comfort our crying,
Dog hearted fun, always played affably,
Bit me, on the nose, as she lay dying.
Dogs have always been part of our nature,
This time, it’s so damn hard to replace her.
Thank you, kurt gasbarra, for asking for those in our poetry community to post photos and poems about a beloved pet.
