Windbreak in Asphalt

A sonnet

Years of abuse and the hot summer sun,
Cracks open industrial park driveway.
Dirt and debris fills cracks, soil has begun.
A luxurious grass is here to stay.

A windbreak in a flat asphalt prairie,
Collecting detritus both large and small,
Anything and seeds the wind will carry.
Grass grows into living retaining wall.

The same things repeat at different scales.
Our senses only perceive a small slice.
A plan will be used and all it entails,
One can’t know the why, count only the price.

So many systems working, not planned and,
Nature takes back what man has abandoned.
