What Happens Now?

Sonnet for an uncertain time

An ark upon rodent and worm plowed earth,
The green lawn floats. Is solid ground beneath?
Buds swell on lilac for next springs rebirth.
Tall phlox, mildew, flower cloud, white as teeth.

Hydrangea’s blue clouds turn purple and green.
Is it arbitrary and capricious?
Are nature’s actions really unforeseen?
If we listen, they can be propitious.

When will all of this be finally done?
Summers holding on. Climate lost control.
Humans should no longer be number one,
Too many teardrops, too high of a toll.

Not winter yet. It’s too early for sleep.
Leaves fall, light fades, little left for to keep.
