Tomorrow or Today

Story in sonnets part six

A child alone throws stones in still water.
Concentric rings will slowly dissipate.
“That’s not a fish”, none that her dad taught her.
The birds, the beasts, they all anticipate.

This meeting between. Alert, not a stir.
This ghostly creature the size of a rat,
with fins, hands, feet, five eyes, looking at her,
wearing metallic clothing, and a hat.

Looking like a doll, she once did adore.
A tiny voice is singing in her head;
“Tomorrow or today, tomorrow or”;
“Today is my tenth birthday”, The girl said.

As the girl was talking, an outstretched hand
held a birthday card, a map, a demand.

To be continued…
