Life Must Go On

A sonnet

Can’t let hateful divisions destroy us.
Can’t forget injustice, nothing will change.
Change takes forever. Patience is a plus.
Change happens all of a sudden. How strange.

Blue jay is bullying the bird feeder,
Chasing birds away, seeds flying about.
The blue jay flies up into a cedar.
Doves feeding on seeds, that others toss out.

On the bird feeder the cardinal lands.
Beak moving so quickly emptying shells.
Cottontail watches the feast and demands,
What, only finches and sparrows can tell.

Sharing space on this warm fall afternoon.
All will be buried in snow, much too soon.
