Election Day

--

A sonnet

We’ve been waiting for this day to be here.
Hoping, it’s not the end but beginning.
Waiting for years as our nation succumbs,
To message of hate, the cost of winning.

It’s simple addition but the answer,
Is so important, can’t be mistaken,
Count all the votes, Enough of the fanfare.
Future’s here, America awaken.

Let all people vote. The people shouted.
Or is the end of representative
Democracy here, voting law flouted.
Election Day, the future’s tentative.

Keep your self busy as our nation waits.
We hope these are still the United States.
