Christmas 2020

A sonnet

Maybe we will not be celebrating,
Christmas this year, The pandemic shouted.
Being a half-decent human being,
Santa sure doesn’t like being doubted.

Have to stay home this holiday season.
The virus still has some damage to do.
Santa is essential worker. Reason,
He’s bringing Christmas here to me and you.

Family estrangement, how was it said?
Political, racial, strife forever,
Anger and ignorance, feeling of dread,
Somehow things seem to be getting better.

Santa’s not letting a virus rewrite,
Goodwill to all and to all a good night.
