Blueberry Patch in Autumn

A Sonnet

Bright red color snuggles in underbrush.
The tall red oaks drop warm winter blanket.
The oaks bounty leads to the squirrels rush,
Acorns are quickly gathered for banquet.

The cyanococcus vaccinium,
Its’ rhizomes growing to form a large patch.
Its’ autumn growth looks to be minimum,
A connected network of clones that match,

Roots growing in the acidic warm soil,
Under oak leaf litter decomposing.
Fungi, ants, worms, slugs, and spiders all toil,
Blueberry barrens, always imposing.

Nature’s beauty conceals complexity,
Explains humanity’s perplexity.
