Blizzard of ‘78

A sonnet

photo by William J Spirdione, Kodak instant film, 1978

The snow kept falling and falling for days.
I can still remember getting let out
Of school early, the slow trudge home to stay
Ten days or so, a storm to write about.

Businesses, schools, roads, all closed for a week.
Parents and adult worries lost to time.
The forecasters said the storm was a freak,
Most adults soon sick of being confined.

Remember snowshoeing with friends through drifts.
Wind whipping huge piles of powdery snow.
Past neighbors snow forts, snowballs thrown in blitz.
Feet cold and wet many decades ago.

Mostly I remember walking solo,
Out side door, hand not gloved, for this photo.
