Alone at Sea

--

A sonnet

Feeling alone and adrift out at sea,
Does anyone or anywhere remain?
Is this the last chance in life to sail free?
Clouds are gathering for soon there’ll be rain.

First furl the mainsail,Then reef the storm jib.
It’s time to heave to, to tie up the helm.
Go below deck there’s no time to be glib.
Abandoning ship when storm overwhelms.

Does this feel like freedom?Adrift at sea?
No one to answer to, only ones fear.
No one to swim to or answer ones plea.
The sea is confused, ones thoughts are unclear.

Waking next morning alive on dry land.
If this is freedom it’s not what one planned.
