A Sonnet for Miriam

Happy 90th birthday

Happy ninetieth birthday Miriam
Age is only a number we can count.
Time spent being humanitarian.
Life’s obstacles she will help all surmount.

The long stormy days at camp spent reading.
Warm and dry, playing cribbage by the fire.
Singing and cooking, singing and feeding,
Our minds and our souls, all that we require.

Walking up the path to sing at the sing.
Boat, skipping on waves, rides across the lake,
Long ribbons of Nuts, fruit, pies, thanksgiving.
Singing grace before we eat birthday cake.

Hilary always said that you saved her,
We’re grateful, our love we wish to confer.
