A Fish Rising

A sonnet

Softly splash the pond's surface discreetly,
And for the first time since last October,
This koi rose to the surface to greet me.
Human like eyes look up from enclosure.

Knowing the fish might even understand,
Rising quickly as spring is unfolding,
How he swam and lightly nibbled my hand,
Turns and waits for me to gently hold…
